Foilist [01 Aug 2007|11:41am]

Name: Emma
Age: 15
Location: Texas
I have been fencing for one year
I fence with a club, FIT(Fencing Institute of Texas)
I fence Foil

I haven't really been Fencing that long but I really enjoy it.  I Fence competitively, I went to summer nationals this year and Junior Olympics is Colorado.  I'm trying to become a better Fencing very quickly since I have to go to collage in two years, and I want to Fence in collage so...yeah.
What I really don't understand is why people who Fence different weapons sometimes don't like each other.  I know a lot of people, including foilist, who make fun of the other weapons.  I find it strange is all...

- Name: Olivia, my nickname is Mongoose and you can call me whichever of the two you choose
- Age:  14
- Location: New Jersey, USA most of the time
- How long have you been fencing?  eh...about 7 months (yes, I am a newb)
- Do you belong to any fencing club/organization/team? Rising Stars Fencing Academy (USFA), and Lakeland Regional High School (team)
- Preferred fencing weapon: Epee
- *BONUS: Include a picture of you in uniform (you know you look good!)*- Uhm...I don't have a photo on this computer, sorry

Hello all! Just thought I should fill this out...so yeah. Fencing's just about my favorite thing in the world even though I'm glaringly green in the sport, even though I'm varsity sub already for the school (at least for this year), even though that doesn't matter at all really...

I'm getting pumped to the Garden State Games in August, w00t

I was introduced to the sport by my school, they had a team and I've always thought the sport was really awesome. But because I joined through the school, I didn't have to master foil first like the people who actually fence traditionally (I fenced with that weapon for a week, and can sufficiently lose terribly...). A few months into the sport, I started going to my academy and I've improved a lot in Epee and I think I'm almost adequate for my age I suppose.

I think I might start improving my skill in foil in a while, one reason being that many of my friends are foils :D.

- Age: 17

- How long have you been fencing? 'bout a year and a half
- Do you belong to any fencing club/organization/team? Springfield Fencing Club (USFA)
- Preferred fencing weapon: Foil, keep bugging my Master to let me try saber

Hi folks. Just letting people know I exist, and...okay it gives me a chance to babble about myself.

I've wanted to fence since I read about it when I was 10, unfortunately I live in a very rural part of Central Illinois and there weren't any opportunites to start. Just recently I learned about a group starting up in the larger town a half-hours drive from my place, so I joined. I love fencing just as much as I thought I would, and am as helplessly addicted to it as I am to softball. I haven't been doing it very long, but I know a lot about it from reading. So...that's it I think. I'm also thinking of picking up Epee in addition to foil and (hopefully) saber.

Tournament today! [20 Jan 2007|08:31pm]

Yey!! Thanks for the good wishes you guys!! It was a blast. I actually scored (exciting!) on everyone but the two girls I fenced from my team. Our team won overall, which was really exciting, and I had SOOOOOOOO much fun. I had a little weapon trouble, which was sad, and ended up using my friends' epees for 4/6 bouts, but it was fun. Also, when I can figure out how to hook my camera up to the computer, I will post a (very bad because my friend can't take pictures) picture of me suited up and pretending to stab one of the guys on my team. Thanks again! I hope I'll do a lot better at states in about a month, if I can go.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say that I have my first tournament this Saturday...wish me luck! I'll tell you how it goes! I also met my new coach today. He's a little...weird. He might teach me sabre, though, so that's cool. Sorry for rambling

Club Equipment Question [22 Oct 2006|09:23pm]

nypunkeer
So, two club related things.

First, we have a girl on our club who is a foilist, getting pretty decent, but the breast protector that she wears is very uncomfortable, not big enough, cut right, etc. Where would one go to find breast protectors for women with a large bust?

Second, our club has been going through a lot of foils, especially at tournaments. The majority of them are tip problems, but blades are being bent to crap as well (due to both bad, and not-bad fencing).
Are there any good "club blades" out there--moderatly inexpensive, yet highly durable? Any idea who makes the best points, and how we can better take care of the one's we have, because I'm stumped.

On a more personal note, I've found myself fencing more Foil recently, so I figure, due to point number two, that I should buy a Foil or two. I'm primarily an epeeist, and my gorgeous Leon Paul maraging blade costs more than I'd like to admit. So, what I need is a fairly priced, moderatly flexible, yet very durable blade with I tip I won't have to worry about replacing after every tournament. I've tried Blue Gauntlet, SG, Physical Chess, and even Leon Paul (works OK, but a bit pricy and flexible for my taste), but nothing seems to really be up to snuff. Any ideas?

It's driving me nuts! I love the layout/backround for this community. I cannot find a single website that has fencing layouts! And I had the hardest time even finding the icon I use.
Anyone have websites, or anything like that?

Hey everyone. I've been fencing for about 9 months and I'm pretty much obsessed. I plan to attend the Junior Olympics in just about 2 years. I'm left-handed. =D

SURVEY

- Name: Christine
- Age: 15
- Location: USA
- How long have you been fencing? 9 months
- Do you belong to any fencing club/organization/team? Yes. a club a bit aways from where I live but better than nothing.
- Preferred fencing weapon: my coach was very firm in making all beginners learn foil first and stick with it. I've just started doing epee and I'm in love with both. Can't wait to try out sabre. >=)

So does anyone know any left-hand tricks they hate with a passion? I'd love to learn them. Actually, any tricks at all would be great. =)

The decision to eliminate the Chinese fencers at the Olympics seems pretty harsh to me, especially since it's being hosted in Beijing.

So I am fencing at the North Carolina Divisionals this weekend! I was there all day today and will be all day tomorrow. It's been really awesome so far. Our club's female epeeists made an especially good showing - one of my friends came first out of pools and got her E, and our armourer ended up winning the event and getting her D, landing people from our club in first and second place. Which was very nice. ^^

And there's always the meeting people at tournaments, which is very awesome. Granted, I've only been fencing for five months, and this is only my second tournament ever (my first was just last weekend), but I've already met a fair few people, and recognise people from other places. I have found that at least in my area, fencing is absolutely full of boys about my age who are very attractive and have very nice long-ish hair. And they're pretty much all very nice and fun to talk to, too! Excellent arrangement, I say. It is bizarre, though - is long hair on guys some sort of requirement once you've been fencing for a specific period of time? ^^; I'm certainly not complaining, though; I like long hair.

The sad thing, however, is that I posted about going to Divisionals in my journal last night, and no one seemed to care. No one wished me luck or anything. *mock-pouts* They just don't understand. No one gets it, oh noes!!1

But that's okay. I have a very cool fencing community right here to care, don't I?

Just out of curiosity, do you keep up with the fencing world - in terms of professional athletes? Do you follow them as the average person might follow a baseball, basketball or football player?
